My article Weekend Easy Riders on places you can motorcycle to from Manila on a weekend is out in today’s issue of SIM.
A lot of these are in the Rizal/Laguna area since it’s easy enough to drive to via the Marilaque route. Below are a few more photos of the places featured that didn’t make it to the magazine due to space constraints. Take note that travel times really vary on the routes you take, traffic and your speed.
Daranak and Batlag Falls
- Location: Tanay, Rizal
- Travel time: 1.5 to 2 hours
- Good for: swimming, picnics, sightseeing

Trivia: Daranak Falls has been featured in several local movies and TV shows, including OK Ka Fairy Ko! and Encantadia.
- Location: Km 63 East Road, Brgy. Halahayin, Pililla, Rizal
- Travel time: 2 hours
- Good for: sightseeing, dining, massage
Kawayan Farm
Sisig, Crispy Fried Hito and Kawayan Farm’s pet monkey
Trivia: House specialties in Kawayan Farm’s restaurant include labong (a spicy Bicol express Dish using bamboo shoots) and lumpia (an egg roll filled with lettuce and bamboo shoots.)
Paete, Laguna
- Travel time: 2 hours
- Good for: sightseeing, buying handicrafts, snacks

Trivia: Artisans from Paete have produced sculptures, pulpits, murals and bas reliefs that are found in churches, palaces and museums all over the world including St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Caliraya Lake
- Location: Cavinti, Laguna
- Travel time: 2.5 hours
- Good for: boating, fishing, overnight camping

Trivia: Caliraya lake’s surroundings have been compared to North American resorts because of the number of pine trees which were introduced by early developers to replace coconut trees, as well as the cool climate in the area.
Pagsanjan Falls, Cavinti, Laguna
- Travel time: 2.5 to 3 hours
- Good for: sightseeing, boating

Hi Supertikoy. Will check when the best time to go to Daranak is. I’ve been to other falls that aren’t so great depending on the season and if it’s rainy, the water turns muddy. Batlag falls is really nice though.
