If you had seven days, P35,000 and access to free flights anywhere in the Philippines, where would you go? Five lucky teams of university students found out as they embarked on a trip of a lifetime. Cebu Pacific’s Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge recently concluded its fifth and biggest year as it gave thrill-seeking university students an opportunity to explore top Philippine destinations for free!
By the end of the challenge, #JFFJuanTeamPH was hailed as the year’s Ultimate Backpackers and received the grand prize – the biggest so far in the history of the competition. All team members took home a Travel-All-You-Can pass that entitles each member to as many free flights to domestic and international short-haul destinations as they want within one year.
The grand winners, hailing from Bacolod, #JFFJUANTeamPH is composed of Glenn Layola, Audrey Ramos, and John Ray Blance of La Salle Bacolod guided by their adventure coach, TV host and VJ Robi Domingo. The team kicked things off in Iloilo before making their way to Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Surigao and Butuan. For their final stop, they paid a visit to the majestic Mt. Mayon in Legazpi, Albay.
Winning Team: JuanTeamPH
Taking second place was #JFFTeamPura composed of Engineering students from De La Salle University, Marie Tuason, Karlo Carranza, and Samantha Rice with Bogart the Explorer as their adventure coach. Their action-packed itinerary covered Bohol, Cebu, Dumageuete, Siargao, Iloilo and Davao.
Hailing from Tuguegarao, Brendan Tangan, Linus Pagulayan, and Cherson Bariuan of St. Paul University Philippines make up #JFFTeamPablo. With Adventure Coach Saab as their guide, the team explored the pristine waters of Coron and Camiguin, and were wowed by the natural beauty of Iloilo and Cebu.
#JFFTeamTAG’s Patricia Quintero, April Baldovino, and Gian Nicdao of University of the Philippines-Manila hit four of the country’s top tourist spots: Boracay, Cebu, Iloilo and Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Helping them make the most of the time in these destinations was their adventure coach, musician Champ Lui Pio.
True to their team name, #JFFTeamWork Serge Calumpong of Ateneo de Davao, April Nacion of University of Southeastern Philippines, and Jaysson Presores of the University of Mindanao leveraged their years of friendship to conquer Laoag, Cebu, Bacolod, and Davao. Their adventure coach, travel writer Jude Bacalso, also made sure the teams succeeded and made each stop unforgettable.
Runner-ups were awarded with three RT tickets to destinations in the Cebu Pacific network. Participating teams also took home premium travel gear from the challenge’s partner brands including Boreas Gear (official travel gear), Merrel (official footwear), and GoPro (the official camera). Juan for Fun was supported by Wenger and Dan’s, and endorsed by the Department of Tourism and Commission on Higher Education.
