Nuvali is a residential / commercial complex and eco-destination in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. About an hour’s drive or so from the metro (depending on the traffic), Nuvali is a huge playground for various outdoor activities, including running, biking and wakeboarding. It’s also a family-friendly destination with restaurants, retail outlet stores and parks spread around the complex. While visitors can go around during day trips, Nuvali has become a popular destination for weekend staycations. If you’re participating in sports event in the area or want to maximize your weekend, it may be better to stay overnight in the area. One option for a relaxing hotel stay nearby is Microtel by Wyndham South Forbes, which is just minutes away from Nuvali.

LOCATION:

Microtel by Wyndham South Forbes is technically located in Silang, Cavite, but it’s only a few minutes away from Ayala Westgrove and Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The hotel is situated inside South Forbes, a 500-acre, world-class township with residential, entertainment, academic, and sports components that encompasses the Metro Sta. Rosa-Silang-Tagaytay growth corridor. It’s easily accessible to industrial parks like Laguna Techno Park and retail shopping area Paseo de Sta. Rosa. This convenient location near key attractions and destinations makes Microtel South Forbes a good option for business and leisure travelers staying in town.

ROOMS:

Microtel South Forbes has 61 guest rooms, mostly equipped with 2 Queen Beds or 1 Queen Bed Suites, which offer a view of the Laguna Lake and the rolling countryside. All the rooms are air-conditioned and come with comfortable chiropractor-approved mattresses. Microtel’s beds are really comfortable, they make you want to lounge all day. As a no-frills hotel, the rooms are basic but clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay.  All rooms have TV with cable channels, radio clock and private bath with hot and cold shower.

The room we got was a two-queen bed suite which had a cushioned window seat. There were also standard toiletries like soap, shampoo and toothbrushes in the bathrooms which had its own bath tub. The suite rooms have their own coffee/team-making facilities, refrigerator, microwave, kitchen counter and sink and sofa sleeper. They also have several disability accessible rooms for those with special needs.

HOTEL AMENITIES:

The hotel has wireless internet connection, an in-house Japanese restaurant, and a function hall with a capacity of 100 to 130 persons. The hotel staff even let us use one of the function rooms for an instant videoke night, by connecting a Magic Sing to a projector. I was afraid we were disturbing other guests, but apparently the rooms is soundproof, so no worries. The hotel doesn’t have a spa, but you can easily arrange for in-room massage through the front desk.

 

The hotel has ample parking space for those bringing their own cars. However, they also offer scheduled shuttle service to and from Laguna Technopark, Paseo de Sta. Rosa and Nuvali, for those who don’t have their own mode of transport.

Microtel also offers road bikes for rent, which they launched just a couple of months ago. The hotel currently has 4 single-speed road bikes for rent at P150/hour. This is a pretty good option if you want to do mix some exercise with urban explorations in the area. Hopefully, they’ll also offer MTB rentals soon, since it’s difficult to take single-speed bikes on the biking trails. If trail biking in Nuvali is your main agenda, I suggest you bring your own mountain bikes. This is also a good jump-off point to Tagaytay for bikers.

CHATEAUX DE PARIS CLUBHOUSE:

Though it isn’t open to the public, guests staying in Microtel South Forbes can get access to South Forbes Clubhouse’s swimming pool. The beautiful French-inspired villa called Chateaux de Paris is just a 5-minute drive away. All the houses in the village are inspired by the French Renaissance style, and the grand clubhouse with its swimming pool and multipurpose hall looks like a great place for events and parties.

DINING:

I’ve noticed that Microtel caters their in-house concessionaire to match the needs of their main clientele.  Since they get a lot of Japanese long-staying guests, the hotel is serviced by Umenoya Japanese Restaurant. Located right next to the hotel’s lobby, the hotel serves complimentary buffet breakfast, which was a mix of Filipino, American and Japanese dishes.

Umenoya (named after the Japanese word for flower) is said to be one of the first Japanese restaurants in the area. They serve delicious a la carte Japanese dishes all day. After getting drenched in the rain on our way back from biking, we enjoyed a filling dinner of Japanese favorites like sushi, maki, tempura, ramen, teriyaki and gyoza in their cozy VIP room. For those who can’t decide what to order, they have a wide range of Bento Box meal options.

With its location and amenities, Microtel South Forbes offers a good venue for business and corporate events. Families and barkadas who want an easy staycation destination not that far from the metro can enjoy R & R at the hotel and nearby towns like Cavite, Laguna and Tagaytay.

Going southbound on South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), take the Sta. Rosa Exit to the Sta. Rosa – Tagaytay Road. Turn right at the Nuvali Spine Road and then turn left at South Boulevard. Go straight until you see Micotel on your left.
