Amazing Harry Potter Cake and Cupcakes

The Regali Kitchen designed the most amazing treats for my nephew Eli’s Harry Potter-themed 3rd birthday! Since Eli started going to school this year, this topsy turvy stack of Hogwarts spell books represent Harry’s first year at Hogwarts. Kudos to Chef JB Cada and Stephanie Santos for the wonderful treats!

The cake (which was served during a small family lunch) was topped with Hedwig carrying an envelope with Eli’s name on it plus a “Happy Birthday” written on a scroll.

The stack of spellbooks included One Thousand Magical Herbs & Fungi, The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1), A History of Magic, A Beginner’s Guide to Transfiguration and Magical Drafts and Potions.

On the left side of the stack of books, was the red and black Hogwarts Express, complete with amazing details on the train, especially the wheels and a railroad track. On the right side of the cake were a few boats on a lake (which was how first years were transported across the Black Lake to Hogwarts Castle) and some edible trees. The cake also had a couple of cool details stacked on the books – including Harry’s glasses (with tape!), a quill and stars and the sign of Platform 9 3/4.

Best cake ever, right? It was fun to watch the guest’s reactions to the cake – everyone couldn’t believe it was all edible. They thought it was some kind of decorative artwork. It was a pity to slice the books (filled with Dark Chocolate Cake with Light Caramel Frosting), but we found that the cake was not just gorgeous to look at, it was really delicious too. Really, such a masterpiece!

As if that was not enough, The Regali Kitchen also made the most awesome cupcakes  for Eli to give his 16 classmates at school. Since these were for 3-year olds, the Butterbeer flavored cupcakes were adorned with colorful toppers inspired by candies normally sold on the Hogwarts Express Tea Trolley or at Honeydukes, the sweets shop at Hogsmeade.

Just look at the amazing details on these toppers. There were bags of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans with multi-colored beans spilling out and Bottles of Pumpkin Juice complete with a miniature pumpkin on top of every bottle.

There were Chocolate Frogs on detailed purple and gold gilded platforms that looked ready to jump off the cupcakes.

There were sugar quills (sucking on the ends in class makes you look smart!) and tiny mugs of Butterbeer, which were just so adorable! Seriously, eating these wonderful creations felt like a crime. I still can’t get over how detailed everything is. The only problem is I don’t know how we can ever go back to normal cakes after this.

VENUE

The party was held at Pan de Amerikana, a chess-themed restaurant in Marikina City. The resto has a giant chessboard, hanging vines, and a stage with Italian colonnade European ruins complete with marble columns which made a perfect backdrop for a Harry Potter-themed party. Food is pretty affordable for groups. Guests came in the colors of their preferred houses. Some snapshots from the party below.

  1. Hi Killerfillers, Adventure Time is a cool theme! Hope you get them since they’re so good at making geeky cakes. Check out their albums on FB esp. the Game of Thrones cupcakes, Narnia and Sandman cake. 🙂

  2. what an incredible cake. the details are so exquisite! ang galing! siguro kung ako yung may birthday hindi ko mahahati yan sa kacutan. hahaha. good to hear na masarap din sya. yung iba kasing cake maganda lang tignan pero pag tikiman na wala na.

  3. Hi Joan! It really felt like murder when we sliced the book cakes. Kept one of the cupcake toppers as a souvenir (we ate the cupcakes themselves). And yeah, everything was as delicious as it was beautiful to look at. Butterbeer talaga flavor ng cupcakes! 🙂 The kids loved it.
