Animal Bread from Antipolo

Ever wanted to eat a crocodile for breakfast?

You can find this cute animal art bread in Domalaon Bakery, an unassuming roadside sari-sari store in Antipolo City. It’s been sold there for years now and has been featured in various newspapers and blogs. The bread is popular during Christmas and New Year, when people buy them as edible centerpieces.

The bakery sells loaves of monay bread shaped like lobsters, lechon (pig), crocodiles, crabs and turtles. During my first visit (2009), the smallest piece of animal bread only cost P10/each. (NOTE: I visited again in Dec 2014 and the bread still costs only P10/each!)

The lechon bread, which seems to be the most popular, can be ordered in bigger sizes for special occasions. The biggest sized lechon bread, which can be made in the same size as a real lechon, goes for P150.

While all the animal-shaped bread taste just like ordinary bread, you’ve got to admit, they’re pretty cute.

Domalaon Bakery is located at 257 Circumferential Road, Barangay San Isidro, Antipolo City. Tel. no: 0921-4643326. [LOCATION ON GOOGLE MAPS]
