We’ve all heard of the saying: “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” While that is true to some extent, it can also make you poorer by draining your savings if you’re not careful.
Frequent travelers use various techniques to save money when they travel. For flights, this can mean waiting patiently for seat sales and promo fares, saving up miles and points to be able to redeem free flights or maximizing sponsored trips and extending so that you don’t have to shell out cash for flights.
Other travelers plan their trips more carefully. I previously wrote about why frequent travelers use the Traveloka App. This nifty Travel Booking App helps you search, compare and purchase flights and hotels. It’s easy to use, less time-consuming to book, gives you exclusive discounts and savings and is paperless. No need to print out your hotel ticket or voucher. You can also use it to score the latest seat sale promos to fit your budget:
Traveloka’s latest feature Price Alerts notifies you when a flight fitting your budget becomes available. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Download the Traveloka App
- Price Alerts is an app-only feature, so you first need to download the Traveloka App on your phone.
- You can download it from the App Store or from the PlayStore.
2. Register your account
- Tap on the “Register” button to sign up.
- You can use either your mobile number, Facebook account or Google account.
3. Create Your Own Price Alerts
- Once you’ve done registering, look for “Price Alerts” section under the “My Account” tab
- This will take you to a section where you can search for flights based on your desired route (origin and destination), preferred travel dates.
- You can also specify your preferred budget for the flights before saving.
- You can create Price Alerts for multiple destinations.
4. Get notifications
- When a budget-friendly flight matches the specifications you put in, you’ll get a notification on your phone. It’s that simple!
I’m currently plotting a list of destinations I still want to go around the Philippines before the year ends. I really hope to revisit Palawan, Siargao and visit Romblon for the first time. I wouldn’t mind going back to Batanes either.
