Inspired by the active outdoor lifestyle of Seattle, and situated alongside Kirkland’s brand new bicycle corridor, Chainline Brewing Company was founded in 2014 with the singular goal of creating the highest quality ales and lagers for the discerning craft beer drinker. It’s said to be the fastest growing micro-brewery in Kirkland, Washington, USA, home of fresh hops farms.

I recently got invited to the virtual craft beer tasting event to try out these craft beers. I’ve been a fan of the Philippine craft beer scene since 2011 and have always made it it a point to try homegrown beers when I travel. Since we can’t really travel internationally or even go out drinking in bars much these days, it’s nice to get a taste of something different and unique for drinking sessions at home.

I was immediately drawn to the beer label design and bike-themed branding of the beers as well as the affordable price tag. Considering the generally high cost of imported craft beer in the country, these beers are pretty accessible for the quality.

Polaris Pilsner offers a fresh taste from an old standard. Polaris hops provide a unique, mint-like flavor while still maintaining their Noble lineage. Bohemian malts and yeast provide the body you would expect from this style Pilsner, while finishing a bit sweeter than its Teutonic counterpart.

Of the three in the pack, this is the lightest at 4.9% ABV and most familiar tasting for those not used to craft beer. Polaris is a very sessionable afternoon beer, suitable for the hot tropical weather in the Philippines. It’s the kind of beer you want to drink ice cold after a leisurely weekend ride as soon as you get home, or while lounging around in your garden or balcony while catching the breeze.

Trail Gnome IPA (6.8% ABV) offers a refreshing surprise for your palate. Ultra-late hop additions allow us to pack in tons of flavor, without adding too much bitterness. The result is an IPA with crazy tropical flavors and interesting malt body that keeps you coming back for more.

I liked this the most of the three. The unique hoppy aroma and aftertaste is refreshing, but very distinctive. This is something that will appeal to those who like hoppy beers. Nabudol during a long bike ride and feel exhausted? This will instantly boost your mood and make you feel better so you can sleep well after.

Tune Up Juicy IPA is a Vermont inspired IPA with hazy golden appearance and more hop flavor than you thought possible. Citrus and Melon dominate this surprising smooth and easy drinking beer. 6.2% ABV.

This is the kind of beer that would pair well with heavy meaty dishes. It’s a great choice if you want to enjoy a backyard BBQ and steak night at home with your bike buddies or family.
