I’ve had the chance to stay in other Microtel properties for both leisure and work trips, including Baguio, Tarlac, Cabanatuan, Eagle Ridge Cavite, South Forbes (near Nuvali), Acropolis QC, UP Technohub QC and Gensan. And while most of the branches offer comfortable rooms for a good night’s sleep, I really liked the natural location, laid-back beach vibe and well-designed space at Microtel Puerto Princesa.

Location

Microtel Puerto Princesa is located along Emerald Playa Beach and Nature Park, about 3.2 km away from the Puerto Princesa International Airport, or 15 minutes by car. Compared to hotels located along the highway, Microtel offers a bit more privacy and seclusion. You get your own white sand stretch of beach away from the crowds, a large pool and beautiful landscaped grounds, making this a good base if you’re after rest and relaxation in Palawan.

The well-designed interiors in the lobby and common areas also seem to reflect the beach vibe of “The World’s Best Island”, with lots of use of wooden materials, cozy lounging areas and the whitewashed, blue and white beachy feel.

Accommodations

The resort offers two room types; the 2 Queen Beds Room (25 sqm) and the 1 Queen Bed Suite (30 sqm) respectively. Whether you select the Beach or Lagoon View, you’ll have a relaxing stay in paradise with clean and comfortable rooms fitted with healthy for the back chiropractor approved beds. They currently have 50 guest rooms available.

The double room looks like your standard hotel room, very similar to other Microtel properties, but the view of the beach from the balcony is great. We spent most of our time outdoors, by the pool, lounging in the lobby (where the WiFi was strongest) and with easy access to the unlimited coffee, turmeric tea and drinking water.

Amenities

Aside from the rooms, the property also has a function room, garden, and beachfront area that may be used for various events. Complimentary buffet breakfast is served in Senordamla, the hotel’s in-house restaurant. Breakfast consisted of the usual standard fare like corned beef, tapa, etc. egg station, a salad bar, soup, bread, coffee and juice. During one of the nights we stayed here, we enjoyed a festive BBQ dinner was set up right on the beach under the trees.

The property also has its own swimming pool right next to the restaurant, for those who want to just chill out.

One of the perks of staying in Microtel Puerto Princesa are all the fun water sports activities you have within arm’s reach such as kite-surfing, kayaking through the mangroves, or taking a dip in the swimming pool. The hotel can also arrange tours and transportation to top tourist spots around the city, such as the Puerto Princesa Underground River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site or city tours.

But if you’re booked here, you’ll want to spend at least an afternoon just chilling out at the hotel to fully enjoy the amenities. During low tide, you can walk to the mangrove areas, which provides good photo ops. There are also a lot of hammocks and sun decks where you can just lounge about and get a tan.
