Going to Disneyland has always been a childhood dream among those who grew up watching Disney Films. Though I never had the chance to travel there as a kid, I’m grateful that I got the chance to visit Tokyo Disneyland for the first time in 2019, mainly to accompany my nephew on the rides during a family summer trip with my mom in Japan.
Tokyo, Japan’s vibrant capital, offers an amazing blend of the traditional and the ultramodern. Historic temples can be found right next to neon-lit skyscrapers. Japan is a dream destination for many people, offering a unique experience when it comes to culture, history, architecture, and food.
If you’re a fan of horror / zombie / survival video games like Silent Hill or Left4Dead, you know how immersive playing them can be. Sometimes, playing them makes you want to know what it feels to actually be inside those virtual worlds.
The last time I visited Japan, I made it a point to visit the Sapporo Beer Museum in Hokkaido, which I previously thought was the only beer museum in Japan. During a recent family trip, I found out that there’s another smaller museum dedicated to one of Japan’s oldest beer Yebisu, which is easily accessible by train from any point in Tokyo. There’s no admission fee to visit and you can easily just walk in without making reservations, making this a good stop for beer-lovers.
A weekend in Tokyo is such a treat. This is a city of contrasts that collide beautifully together: sprawling skyscrapers sit side by side with ancient shrines, historic parklands blend into a backdrop of futuristic architecture and cutting-edge technology works in harmony with traditional customs. Discovering Japan’s capital can take years, but with a weekend to spare, start with the highlights.
