Where to rent bikes in La Union

Want to try biking in La Union on your next beach vacation? Most tourists go to Elyu to enjoy the beach and the waves. But if you’re looking for new things to do in La Union aside from learning to surf, food-tripping, going grape picking, or sightseeing, biking might be a good activity. Biking can let you discover a different side of La Union.

Mebuyan’s Vessell, La Union

When I recently traveled to La Union, I noticed a relatively new bike shop that offers bicycles for rent while walking from Charlie’s Hangar Surf Hostel on the way to Little Canggu to grab lunch before heading back home on the bus.

While I didn’t get to try biking around on that trip, I’m bookmarking it for future trips and sharing details in case other tourists are interested in renting bikes. Here are a few places where you can rent bicycles in La Union.

Geezer’s Bike Rental

Geezer’s is a small bicycle shop along McArthur Highway near Urbiz Garden that opened in January 2023 that offers several bikes for rent. The shop also sells bike accessories, jerseys, and other bike-related paraphernalia. Their shop hours are from 11:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Thursdays to Mondays. They’re closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

  • Address: 134 Beachfront MacArthur Highway, Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union (outside Urbiz Garden)

Kahuna Beach Resort

Kahuna Beach Resort, one of the top beachfront resorts to stay in La Union, offers mountain bike rentals through their partner BikeLine. Kahuna offers a range of quality bike rentals fit for cyclists of different levels. Their fleet of bikes are reportedly serviced by accredited professionals. You can go around La Union on bikes starting at P600 for a half-day rent and PHP 1,000 for whole day rentals.

The bike rentals are open to tourists even those who are not checked in at the hotel. All guests must leave a valid ID and P3,000 deposit for the bikes (refundable after returning the bikes). Take note that these are just rentals, and guests will have no tour guide when biking around.

Kahuna’s website also suggests four cycling routes based on your level of expertise. Beginners can try the Holcim-Bacnotan Loop and San Gabriel Bacnotan Loop, both of which have flat elevation, and with rides that will last around 2 hours.

Advanced bikers can enjoy the thrill of a Bacsil Ridge Nadsaag Loop. This almost 30 km ride ride, which has a steep elevation, will take roughly 3-4 hours.

Meanwhile, expert bikers can enjoy an intense workout with the Tangadan Banbangolan Bacsil Loop to visit the famed Tangadan Waterfalls (guide needed). This 34-km route, which has an insanely steep elevation, takes around 5 hours to complete. Check out Kahuna’s suggested routes here.

San Juan Adventure Cycles

Another place you could rent bikes from in La Union is San Juan Adventure Cycles. Along with their usual mountain bikes, this shop also offers stylish Japanese bikes for those who just want their own transport for chill rides.

  • Rockriders MTB- P500/ day ( aprrox 12 hrs) + P250 security deposit ( will be refunded once the bike is returned without any damage etc.)
  • Japanese Bikes- P400/ day + P250 security deposit ( will be refunded once the bike is returned without any damage etc.)

San Juan Adventure Cycles recommends exploring the countryside, riding along rice field going to San Gabriel, exploring the riverside road going to Tangadan Falls, visiting San Juan People’s Park and Church, or biking along the sand dunes of Panicsican. On bikes, you can also easily explore Bacnotan and Balaoan’s beachside roads and seafood hub or hunt down unique restaurants in other towns.
