La Union, the surfing capital of the Northern Philippines, has always been a popular destination for those coming from the metro, especially during weekends and holidays. Vessel Hostel

Vessel Hostel is a compact yet cozy surf-inspired hostel composed of six repurposed shipping containers stacked on top of each other. The four-story property offers private rooms including private 4-bed and 6-bed dorm rooms with en suite toilets and baths with a hot and cold shower.

The weekday rate for a room good for 2-3 pax starts at P3,700 per night per room, while the weekend/holiday rate is P5,400/night.

Funky Quarters

Funky Quarters offers an alternative luxury boutique hotel experience in La Union, with steampunk-inspired rooms, with lots of brick walls, neon signs, and ladders on the bunk beds made of pipes. You can find this hostel right beside the popular Mad Monkeys and in the same corner as Tagpuan food spots. They also have a hip bar on the premises serving craft beer. 

They offer one furnished private room for 2 people with special amenities, and two quarters with bunk beds for either 4 or 6 pax. For solo travelers who don’t mind sharing a room with strangers, their weekday bunker rates (Mon-Thursday) start at P1,850/night for 1 pax.

Charlie’s Hangar Surf Hostel

Backpackers and solo travelers looking for budget-friendly beachfront accommodations can stay in Charlie’s Hangar Surf Hostel, an aviation-themed hostel with clean and modern dorm-style bunk rooms and shared restrooms. Rooms come in 4-bed, 6-bed, and 8-bed configurations with double-deck bunks.

Aside from giving easy access to the beach, the hostel has good WiFi and lots of tables and grills right outside the hangar space for guests who want to enjoy barbecues or picnics. The property is pet-friendly. Rates for bed spaces range from P750 to P950 a night depending on the number of people per room.
