TV Feature: Ride Mo’To on ABS-CBN Sports & Action

So I got featured on Prime-time television again. Last month, I got asked to be a guest rider on the third episode of Ride Mo’To, a new show “For Riders and Soon to Be Riders” hosted by Paolo Abrera that airs on ABS-CBN Sports and Action. The episode I was featured in for the rider profile was all about Millennial Travel and Motorcycles with scooters provided by Yamaha and Suzuki, two of major brands carried by motorcycle dealer and show sponsor Wheeltek.

To be honest, I hate public speaking. I’ve generally avoided talking in front of a large audience or guesting on TV shows (except once for Motorcycle Diaries ni Jay Taruc). I’m more comfortable writing things down than being in front of the camera. I actually tried Vlogging once, but only because I was drunk on craft beer. I deleted the video afterwards.

I got interviewed mainly on my travels around the Philippines and beyond, the most memorable places I’ve ridden around the country (Batanes) and the bikes I currently use (Chocobo, my trusty Yamaha Mio Fino and Fenrir, a Suzuki Thunder custom bike). I also got to test ride the Yamaha Mio Sporty and Suzuki Skydrive Sport, two very easy to use scooters for the newbie rider market.

The show aims to provide information on the latest motorcycles and encourage those who never thought of riding on the practicality of owning a motorcycle.

Throughout the season, Ride Mo’to will feature the latest motorcycles from scooters to sports bikes, hyper bikes even ‘pantra’ bikes (pang tricycle), ride destinations and tips on how to keep your bike in the best condition. Ride Mo ‘To aims to educate the public on how to become better riders and how to share the road with pedestrians and other vehicles responsibly.

A cool part of the show is the segment hosted by Professor M (Mark Chiudian), who does crazy Myth-busters style experiments with motorcycles. This episode featured tips on how to ride in flooded areas or through river crossings shot in Daraitan.

That was timely because this whole episode had to be re-shot because of the bad weather the first time we tried to shoot. Since motorcycle shows mostly take place outdoors, there’s not a lot of creative shots you can do if it’s raining the whole time. Thankfully, the weather was better the second time around.

I saw first-hand how much work goes into shooting a 30-minute television program. There’s a lot that goes behind the scenes to put a show like this together, given the requirements of the sponsors, tight production deadlines, schedule conflicts, crew availability, traffic in the metro and unpredictable weather.

Much respect to host Paolo Abrera, segment host Prof M, director Gab, Production Assistant Rinette, cameramen, crew, video editors, the guys who have to deliver the motorcycles from the warehouse and back, and everyone else who works tirelessly behind the scenes.

Ride Mo ‘to airs every Monday at 6:30 pm with replays every Sunday at 8:30 am on ABS-CBN Sports and Action. The episode I was featured in originally aired on October 1 with a replay on October 7. For posterity, I’m uploading the intro segment before we did the actual test rides which I recorded from TV. I really hope they make the whole episodes available on YouTube soon!  The show has also featured other motorcycle personalities in the Philippines in other episodes including Motovlogger Telly Buhay of Turban Rider and Coach Mel Aquino on the episode about off-roading.

Thank you for the opportunity and feature, Ride Mo’To. For updates on the show, check out their official Facebook Page: Ride Mo’to. Lets Ride Na!

Thanks to Wrangler Philippines for my gear!
